1. What inspired you to go to your first rowing practice; was there anything memorable about it?
I remember it was snowing and the team had just gotten back from Florida. Everyone was tan, and the coach sent them out on a "fun run" in the snow. I chose to erg with one other girl. I think it may have been the last time I preferred erging to running.
2. Was there a practice, race or other event when you fell in love with the sport, or when you knew you might not be too bad at rowing? When you thought you could make the national team?
When I showed up for my first day of practice in January 2002, at least 10 people introduced themselves in the first 5 minutes....that was a team/sport for me.
Our Regional Championship race in 2003 was the first time I thought we might have a chance at being pretty good, but I thought that had more to do with the rest of the boat, than me. When that boat went on to make it through a white squall of a semi (I even got water up my nose as we surfed a wave down the whole course) at that year's NCAA Championship, I thought we were picking up momentum. That was one of my most memorable races.
3. Best race/practice, worst race/practice?
Some of the "worst" days are also the best.
4. Best/Anything you've done in the sport no one knows about?
Yep. ;)
5. Any/Most important advice for young rowers?
Don't let anyone else set your standards for you. Always remind yourself: "Yes, I have more."
